ygflu(1).jpgNature conservation activity of “Pavlodar Oil Chemistry Refinery” LLP is directed to decrease the anthropogenic impact on the environment. The major tasks of nature conservation activity at the Refinery are observance of environmental legislation, reduction of air emissions, minimization of production wastes, contamination protection of soil and groundwater.

Plans of nature-conservative measures, environmental control program and production monitoring program are developed to carry out these tasks.

The following kinds of monitoring are conducted according to the Production monitoring program:

  • atmosphere air state monitoring;

  • wastewater quality monitoring;

  • groundwater state monitoring;

  • soil monitoring;

  • radiation safety monitoring.

2.jpgScheduled and operating supervision over the state of environmental objects is implemented at the Refinery involving a third-party accredited laboratory on contractual terms. Production monitoring is conducted in all areas of environment:

Atmosphere air state monitoring

Samples of atmosphere air for content of hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulphide, phenol were taken at the atmosphere boundary of sanitary protection area. Samples of atmosphere air for content of hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulphide, benzene, toluene, xylene, carbon oxide were taken at the atmosphere boundary of industrial estate of refinery.

Wastewater quality monitoring

The following ingredients are defined in the purified waste pumping pipeline to the waste pond Sarymsak twice a month: oil products, suspended substances, phenols, sulphides, salt ammonium on N, nitrites, nitrates, dissolved phosphates, salt content, biological oxygen demand 20, synthetic surfactants.

Background concentration of oil products, suspended substances, phenols, sulphides, salt ammonium on N, nitrites, nitrates, dissolved phosphates, salt content, biological oxygen demand 20, synthetic surfactants, sulphates, chlorides, hardness Ca, hardness Mg, pH, total hardness, total alkalinity is defined in 4 points of the waste pond Sarymsak twice a year.

Groundwater state monitoring

Groundwater state control is implemented in the area of the waste pond Sarymsak and the solid waste storage pit, and in the sanitary protection area of the Refinery.

Supervision of specific contaminants for refineries is focused by groundwater quality monitoring, namely sulphides, chlorides, phenols, nitrates, nitrites, phosphates, ammonia nitrogen and content of oil products in groundwater.

Soil state monitoring

Soil state supervision is conducted at the boundary of the sanitary protection area, around the solid waste storage pit and the waste pond Sarymsak. Content of oil products and heavy metals is defined in soil samples.

The Refinery has managed the primary record of production and consumption wastes arising and located in the environment.

Radiation safety monitoring

Dosimetric control of production wastes and solid waste storage pit state is implemented at the Refinery.

Radiation quality evaluation of oilstock is carried out by “Regional Center for Sanitary and Epidemiological expertise” Republican State Enterprise. Sanitary and epidemiological expert report certifies the safety of tested production and its compliance with hygienic requirements.

Every year plans on protection and rational use of natural resources are developed and implemented at the Refinery.

All nature conservation measures are directed to:

  • reduction o fair emissions;

  • contamination protection of groundwater;

  • prevention of excessive wastewater disposal;

  • environmental protection by production waste storage.

Sulphur granulating unit functions at the Refinery in order to prevent the stockpiling of block sulphur. Granulated sulphur prevents the environmental pollution; it is safe and convenient for transportation.

Tricanter Flottweg is an oil sludge processing unit acting at the Refinery to reduce production wastes.

Operation of the oil sludge processing unit makes possible for the Refinery:

4.jpg

  • not to stockpile it in the environment;
  • to recycle the slop oil into the technological process;

  • to reduce the air emissions fee and waste disposal in the environment;

  • to reduce hydrocarbon emissions into atmosphere air;

  • to prevent the groundwater and soil contamination by operation of subsurface sludge storage pits.
